Cast Time & After-Cast Delay Formulas

This page explains how Cast Time and After-Cast Delay are calculated.

Cast Time (CT)

Cast Time is how long you must stand still before a skill fires.

How it works

Two things reduce your cast time, applied in order:

1. DEX reduces cast time using this formula:

CT = CT_base x (150 - DEX) / 150

This is a linear reduction. Each DEX point reduces cast time by the same proportion.

2. Buffs and item bonuses also reduce cast time, applied on top of the DEX step:

Poem of Bragi reduces CT by a percentage based on the bard's stats at cast time (see formula below).
Foresight (Memorize) halves cast time for the next 5 skills, applied multiplicatively (not additive with Poem of Bragi).
Item / card bonuses stack additively with Poem of Bragi:
- bonus bCastRate global cast time reduction (%)
- bonus bVariableCast flat cast time modifier (ms)
- bonus2 bSkillCastRate per-skill cast time reduction (%)
- bonus2 bSkillVariableCast per-skill flat cast time modifier (ms)

Poem of Bragi's cast time reduction is calculated from the bard's stats when they cast the song:

Poem of Bragi CT reduction % = (3 x Poem of Bragi level) + (Bard's DEX / 10) + Musical Lesson level

Variable	Description
`CT_base`	The skill's base cast time in milliseconds
`DEX`	Your total DEX (base + bonus gear). Cast time reaches 0 at DEX >= 150
`Poem of Bragi level`	The level of the active Poem of Bragi
`Bard's DEX`	The bard's total DEX at the time they cast the song
`Musical Lesson level`	The bard's Musical Lesson skill level

scale = castrate_dex_scale (150) - DEX. Instant cast when scale <= 0 (i.e. DEX >= 150).

Tip

150 DEX is the threshold for instant cast on most skills.

Examples: Storm Gust Lv10 (`CT_base = 15 000 ms`, character's DEX = 100)

Modifiers used in examples: Berzebub Card (-30% CT) + Dark Illusion Card (-10% CT) = -40% CT total. Poem of Bragi stats: DEX 100, Musical Lesson Lv10.

Example 1: No buffs, no items

CT after DEX  = 15 000 x (150 - 100) / 150 = 5 000 ms

Result = 5 000 ms (-66.7% CT reduction | 33.3% of base CT)

Example 2: Poem of Bragi Lv10 only (Bard DEX 100, Musical Lesson Lv10)

CT after DEX          = 15 000 x (150 - 100) / 150 = 5 000 ms
Poem of Bragi CT%     = (3x10) + (100/10) + 10      = 50%
CT after Poem of Bragi = 5 000 x (1 - 0.50)         = 2 500 ms

Result = 2 500 ms (-83.3% CT reduction | 16.7% of base CT)

Example 3: Items only (Berzebub Card -30% + Dark Illusion Card -10%)

CT after DEX   = 15 000 x (150 - 100) / 150 = 5 000 ms
Item CT%       = -30% + -10%                 = -40%
CT after items = 5 000 x (1 - 0.40)          = 3 000 ms

Result = 3 000 ms (-80% CT reduction | 20% of base CT)

Example 4: Items + Poem of Bragi Lv10 (Bard DEX 100, Musical Lesson Lv10)

CT after DEX           = 15 000 x (150 - 100) / 150 = 5 000 ms
Item CT%               = -30% + -10%                 = -40%
Poem of Bragi CT%      = (3x10) + (100/10) + 10      = 50%
Total CT reduction     = -40% + -50%                 = -90%
CT after reductions    = 5 000 x (1 - 0.90)          = 500 ms

Result = 500 ms (-96.7% CT reduction | 3.33% of base CT)

After-Cast Delay (ACD)

After-Cast Delay is the cooldown after a skill fires during which you cannot cast another skill.

How it works

There is no generic stat formula that reduces ACD. DEX, AGI, and INT do not reduce after-cast delay.

ACD reduction comes from two sources:

Poem of Bragi reduces ACD by a percentage based on the bard's stats at cast time:

Poem of Bragi ACD reduction % = (3 x Poem of Bragi level, or 50% at level 10) + (Bard's INT / 5) + (2 x Musical Lesson level)

Item / card bonuses (bonus bDelayRate, bonus2 bSkillDelay) stack additively with Poem of Bragi.

Each skill has its own ACD_base defined in the skill database. A small number of pre-renewal skills have a built-in stat-based ACD reduction, see the Reference section below for the full list. All other skills are unaffected by stats.

Example 1: No buffs, no items

ACD = 5 000 ms

Result = 5 000 ms (-0% ACD reduction | 100% of base ACD)

Example 2: Poem of Bragi Lv10 only (Bard INT 100, Musical Lesson Lv10)

Poem of Bragi ACD%      = 50 + (100/5) + (2x10)    = 90%
ACD after Poem of Bragi = 5 000 x (1 - 0.90)       = 500 ms

Result = 500 ms (-90% ACD reduction | 10% of base ACD)

Example 3: Items only (Kiel-D-01 Card -30% + Diabolus Robe -10%)

Item ACD%       = -30% + -10%               = -40%
ACD after items = 5 000 x (1 - 0.40)       = 3 000 ms

Result = 3 000 ms (-40% ACD reduction | 60% of base ACD)

Example 4: Items + Poem of Bragi Lv10 (Bard INT 100, Musical Lesson Lv10)

Item ACD%               = -30% + -10%               = -40%
ACD after items         = 5 000 x (1 - 0.40)        = 3 000 ms
Poem of Bragi ACD%      = 50 + (100/5) + (2x10)     = 90%
ACD after Poem of Bragi = 3 000 x (1 - 0.90)        = 300 ms

Result = 300 ms (-94% ACD reduction | 6% of base ACD)
